We were meant to be going on our first holiday with my son in May, but of course that’s not happening now due to the Coronavirus outbreak globally. We had planned to go to Agadir in Morocco.
Like me, lots of you will have your Easter holidays cancelled now and instead be confined to your homes during the national lockdown. So I’ve found some awesome travel adventures you can go on whilst just sitting on your sofa. Are you ready for an adventure? Head below to start!
1. Visit Machu Picchu in Peru, South America
Head to one of the most impressive wonders of the world – Machu Picchu! High up in the Andes mountains of Peru, you’ll find these Inca ruins and amazing views. YouVisit.com have a brilliant 360-degree tour you can take allowing you to experience it from all angles. Start your tour here.
2. Hike the Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA
Have you always wanted to go to the Grand Canyon? I went on a college trip years ago now, and it was so impressive! I would love to go again. Google Earth have set up a virtual hike to 18 different viewpoints around the Grand Canyon. Start at Bright Angel Trailhead and scroll through the viewpoints whilst you sit on your comfy sofa with a hot cuppa, or maybe something stronger!
3. Love The Louvre in Paris, France
The Louvre Museum based in Paris was initially built by French King Philippe Auguste as a Fortress. It was designed to act as a defence to protect Paris from attack from the River Seine, hence being built on the right bank of the Seine in the city’s 1st arrondissement. However in today’s time it is the world’s largest art museum and historic monument. There are 4 different virtual tours you can take here.
4. See the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City
Based in Vatican City in Italy, the Sistine Chapel can be found. Famous today for its Michelangelo ceiling painted with ‘The Last Judgement’, the Sistine Chapel is in the Apostolic Palace which is the official residence of the Pope. However it is officially known as the Cappella Magna i.e. Great Chapel, and was named after Pope Sixtus IV who restored it between 1473 and 1481.
Today it is an attraction for many tourists who still flock there to see the Chapel but also Michelangelo’s painting which was revealed now 500 years ago! But it is also used still for religious means and is the place where the papal conclave is held, by which a new Pope is selected. Take a virtual tour now and don’t forget to look up to see the Michelangelo painting!
5. Fly over Hawaii’s active volcanoes
Fly over Hawaii’s active volcano in this virtual tour from Google Arts & Cultures. You can also go on five guided tours taking you on some wild adventures, from kayaking through icebergs, flying over volcanoes, trekking through caves and swimming through the third-largest coral reef in the world!
